The Listening Fitness Training is a therapeutic listening training method that uses sound stimulation, voice work and coaching.

It’s based on the work of Dr. Alfred Tomatis, who found that receptive and expressive communication, attention span, learning ability, social behavior, self-regulation, activity level, motor function and coordination are all related to our ability to listen.

While hearing is the passive, involuntary function of sound perception, listening is active and voluntary.

When well-developed or well-trained, our listening function allows us to focus on the sounds we need and leave out, or protect ourselves from those we don’t.

How I work with Listening Fitness Training (LiFT)

I work with adolescents and adults who want to improve their listening for voice, singing, playing an instrument and general well-being.

LiFT Results

At the end of the Listening Fitness training, students can hear themselves and the world in a whole new way. Students notice a wide variety of improvements in areas including:

  • Speaking

  • Singing

  • Playing an instrument

  • Social interactions

  • Confidence

  • A sense of calm well-being

What can I expect?

The Listening Fitness Training (or LiFT) has two phases— one passive and the other active. Both phases use equipment based on Dr. Tomatis’ original “electronic ear” training device.

Passive Phase

The passive phase consists of 30 hours of listening followed by 4-6 weeks off to integrate the changes made during this phase.

Active Phase

The active phase consist of 30 hours divided between passive listening and active voice work. Voice work includes guided humming, chanting and reading out loud.
